The specific about handmade cigars, what distinguishes them from all other tobacco products, is the processing of the tobacco leaf itself.
Fermentation is a biological process in which, thanks to specific natural conditions, such as an average temperature above 23 degrees, humidity around 75%, etc., the chlorophyll cells begin to feed on the juices in them, in the specific case on tar.
Each fermentation takes an average time of about 3 years of leaf aging, and every cigar, even the lowest grade, is made from tobacco that has gone through at least 2 fermentations, making about 6 years of preparation for the tobacco itself.
Maduro for example, to reach the darker colour and more accent flavour, there is another additional fermentation.
The already fermented tobacco, as fine as a sheet of parchment, is being selected according to harvests and regions from which it was produced. A specialist selects the appropriate blends to preserve the taste characteristic of the respective brand of cigar.
Every hand-made cigar consists of 3 main parts–a core that gives the strength, a bouquet of tobaccos that gives the density and aroma, and a wrapper that gives the necessary burning rate.
The blends prepared by the breeder go into the hands of experienced torsedors-masters, hand-rolling cigars.
